Fashion Senses: a Classic Mini-Skirt Stimulus

By Jin Lovelace; HSM Filmmaker, and TTi Founder.

Mini-Skirts around on Home have come a plenty through sheer diversity of styles and patterns that I've personally love and despise. From the exceptional (Granzella's Tight Office Skirts, Konami's Gothic Mini-Skirt) to the horrid (Popstar's Micro Mini-Skirt *cringes severely*), to absolutely one of the best (Billabong's Rio Mio collection), these riveting mini-gowns is one of the staples in the female fashion wardrobe; something I dire to think that anyone lacks.

It comes to mind, however, on how these wonderful items truly lack in comparison: color, flavor and diversity. From this faculty of what I call "Fashion Senses", I've broken down all of them into my final impressions:

-Exceptional: though these skirts are part of a delicately-crafted outfit design, these skirts weren't fitted for some of the desirable tops you wish to combine. The belt design just doesn't simply allow that. Though Konami's Gothic Mini-Skirt is a good item as well, it only goes so far beyond its genre.

-Horrid: it's too short, hideously designed, and implies effortless challenge to ever fit this legitimately with any top on Home.

-One of the Best: the Rio Mio skirt collection has been heralded as the best items of its kind on Home, with Black being the popular commodity in everyone's fashion wardrobe. Though "the best", the clipping from around the waist prevents certain tops, such as crop and halter tops, wearable. The Floral pattern Rio Mio doesn't help on being an item that not many would ideally wear due to lack of imagination and robust color motifs to make the skirt effective.

All three in common: lack of diversity in color and only available in three base colors: black, white, and red.

Now let me heighten your senses a bit on what was purveyed above:

-Number of two different colored mini-skirts on Home: 2 (red and floral pattern)

-Number of the same base colored mini-skirts on Home: 2 (black and white)

-Number of developers that've created mini-skirts on Home: 3 (Veemee's Billabong brand, Granzella, and Konami)

-Not counting micro mini-skirts, the number of legitimate mini-skirt commodity on Home: 8

Now I wish to remind you that there three different types of skirts; something that you're aware or unaware of:

Skirts

Mini-Skirts (Rio Mio)

Micro Mini Skirts
Believe it or not, there are an assortment of skirts lain in Home that we can wear and effectively concoct with other fabulous items but the fact is, not many don't own the goodies that were once from Granzella's former company Irem which housed an assortment of quality skirts then.

The answer to this--or what I thought--would simply to release more versatile color options of the Rio Mio but given that the item on Home is a replica of the actual real-world garment from the Billabong brand it would make any sense to virtually craft an item that doesn't exist in the stores.

In contrast to what's needed to diversify your wardrobe options, Lockwood comes to response with a release of a mini-skirt line of their own.

To begin, the Classic Mini-Skirts collection aren't your normal skirts that brands any sorts of motifs or outlandish designs. They are simply just what the name implies: classic. These pull-on style skirts are essentially what's needed in my wardrobe, without going into exquisite details on how simple, clean and comfortable looking they are. Accessibility is spot-on, with several tops that you normally couldn't combine with the available skirts are now possible. Even better: those crop and halter tops you've been attempting to make possible before are now at your creative whim, thanks to these lovely classic skirts.

Available in four colors--with petal being the newest on Home--to choose from, the solid color foundation helps with whichever outfit design you wish to achieve.

My wish for Lockwood is to create more of these skirts in different awesome colors like plum, blue, green, and maybe a polka dot pattern for a daring appeal. The design is absolutely fresh to at least play around with a few color schemes, and in turn to give some creative options for many items found in Home. You can purchase the collection for $0.99 per-color.

Fashion Senses

Fashion Senses, the latest fashion project, is the primitive example to the aforementioned statement. The creative options I had with these skirts were simply profound. The designs conveyed were mere samples to what you could use in your wardrobe. Literally, I was digging so far into my storage section just to see what styles I could come up with, and the results were impeccable to my eyes.

Blanco (White)

Items:

Ladies' Coat (Peakvox): $2.49
Wind & Earth Boots - White (Granzella - part of the Wind & Earth Clothing Set)
Drey Oversized Bag - Oil: $0.99
Rounded Sunglasses 2-piece Set (Black): $1.49
Head wrap (Threads): Free

In case you haven't delved into the Peakvox section of the Costumes store, now would be a great time to do so. Never mind of the prices that you see there; it's the quality that matters. The Coat is highly accessible with almost any pants, shorts or, in this case, the white skirt to give a legitimate Winter design. The Boots were added to heighten the motive of the theme.

Items:

LAMAIN (Diesel): N/A
Can Can Boots (Costumes): $0.99
Connected Sunglasses 2-item Set (White/Granzella): $1.49
White Gloves (Threads): $0.25

For something old, I found this style to receive an update from the Infinitum catalog, which also derives from Endless White. Instead of using the Tight Office Skirt I simply donned the classic variant instead for added flare. The gloves serves for a classy appeal instead of a distracting purse.

Items:

Superstar cropped Jacket - White (Veemee): $0.99

Drey Chunky Bangles - Lemonwood (Lockwood): $0.99

High High Heels - Denim Starlet (Lockwood): $0.99

Drey Banner Earrings (Lockwood): $0.99

As an example to the accessibility for almost any top imaginable, Veemee's newest Superstar Cropped Jacket really fits perfectly with the skirt. Notice no clippings around the waist area and nothing of the sort to distract the overall outfit; nice, snug-fit and clean.

Items: as seen in the Belle dis Moi catalog.

The only modification to this outfit would be the white Stilettos from Lockwood. The Rosalina Top from x7 is for free and was used to add so much depth to the sassy style, along with the animated Silver Bracelets.

Rojo (Red)

Items:

Schoolgirl Leather Jacket (IREM): n/a

Black Short Boots (Threads): $0.25
Scrunchy Black Boots: $0.99
Beanie Gloves: $0.25
Half-rim Sunglasses 2-piece Set (Black): $1.49

To showcase something old with this punk-style attire, I took a step back in time to gather the Schoolgirl Leather Jacket from IREM and experimented with the Black Short Boots and its Scrunchy counterpart. I didn't know what to choose from mainly due to featuring the Scrunchy Black Boots in almost every single catalog; they are just that good!

The Beanie Gloves were pretty much a given, seeing as how I love wearing them every now and then. For only $0.25, they are heavily detailed and worth the purchase. I also wanted an excuse to finally wear my never-used Wild Ponytail Idolstyle (which is $1.49 from Hellfire Games). Just something different to go with the overall style.

Items:

Denim Jacket (Threads): $0.25
Patchwork Purse (Threads): $0.99
Special Edition Mahongany Peep Toe high Heels with red Platforms (Lockwood): $0.49

Again, with something old to use with these skirts. The Denim Jacket was a second purchase of mine when it was released on Home at the time and something of a fond memory. It still retains a good quality style that adds a bit of flair to the mini-skirt; something simple, yet chic.

To balance the colors as well, the Patchwork Purse creates good depth to heighten the Mahogany Peep toe High Heels to create this overall classic, upbeat look.

Items: as seen in the Belle dis Moi catalog.

Petalo (Petal)

Items:

Beige Check Shirt (Wrangler): $0.99
Drey Platform Heels - Salmon (Lockwood): $0.99

As seen in Belle dis Moi catalog, though to note the only modification to this outfit would be the hairstyle.

The second outfit in the picture would be a simple use of the Tank Top from Diesel, which is no longer available. The idea behind that style was to draw more creative attention to the petal and black colors.

Items:

Croptop - Candy Apple (Lockwood/Gift Machine): 64 Coins

Drey White Bow Clutch Bag with Gold Bangle (Lockwood): $0.49

Special Edition White Peep Toe High Heels with Bright Green Platform (Lockwood): $0.49

This was yet another display of a more revealing outfit design but with a fresh approach on summer relaxation. This beach attire came to mind when experimenting with different colors, such to example the Candy Apple-colored Croptop. From there, everything worked strategically well and blended so nicely, like the ever-so-challenging Platform Heels of the bright green color. Personally, I loved the color of the Heels but I've never used them until now; no regrets here. :)

As seen in Belle dis Moi catalog.

Negro (Black)

Items:

1. Shoulder Slung Top - Black Star (Veemee): $0.99
Red Peep Toe High Heels (Lockwood): $0.49
Drey Ruby Red Woven Clutch Bag (Lockwood): $0.49Glow Double Eyebrow Bar - Red (Lockwood): $0.49

2. Goth Corset (Threads): $0.99
Cerulean Clutch (Threads): $0.99
Succubus Long Boots - Black (Granzella): $4.49
3. Suit Jacket - White Star (Veemee): $0.99
White Babydoll Stilettos with Black Satin Details and a Black Bow
 (Lockwood): $0.49

Dazzling Heart Locket and Ring (Lockwood/Gift Machine): 128 Coins

This last set was really fun to compose. What I love about this is that Lockwood and Veemee's Street Style apparel mesh so well without appearing to vague or incomprehensible; more or less a "skimpy diva" appearance.

1. The Shoulder Slung Top was ideally for the white mini-skirt but felt that I wanted to try and play around with the trimming colors more, letting the white star only be the lone color of the outfit. The reds I desired to play around with more and what I found so fascinating about it is that it all blends so well with a comprehensive sense. The Glowing Jewelry also sparked an intriguing motive with the style and, personally, I recommend them if you wish to add some spark to your wardrobe. Keep in mind, however, they will be stored in the Earring section of your wardrobe.

2. The second set was a more Midnight Feast catalog inspiration. The Goth Corset has been played with for some time and just wanted to fit it with the skirt, which it does. The Boots are a mere example of what you can use rather than the Paris Modern Long Boots and the Clutch Purse is only to give the colors on the top an "off-set" motif.

3. This is a more classy approach to the Street Style Suit Jacket. The Heels serves only to match the blacks in the outfit, though I also recommend using the Nude-colored Heels from the Drey collection.

Overall

I truly recommend the Skirts for a diverse wardrobe and design options. These styles created were mere examples on what you can use them for: literally anything. I'd never think to actually dig right deep into my storage section of my wardrobe to find some rather old items to put together with these skirts and they're a lot of fun to mess around with, provided if you have the items. Most of what were used in this catalog were rather cheap and easily accessible and even the ones that aren't available on Home you'll find reason to use them again. They are essentially the most perfect skirts available from Lockwood and it would be a shame if you don't give these a try.
