The Fallen Brand: Diesel
After serving 4 years to the Home community, Diesel has officially left the building.
By Jin Lovelace
Diesel's time on Home has finally come to an end. To start this article off on that note is slightly daunting task because however you shape this to really ease it into the many fans of the clothing line, it will all come out the same.
I can give you a background of Diesel's stint on Home and the history behind the real-world fashions they've produced. In fact, I can give you the positive sides about the name brand in regards to how much of a social path was paved on Home, more so of how it really affected the social structure within the community.
No, instead I rather give my personal thoughts on how this brand really gave me a interesting perspective upon the said structure lain in Home and maybe my thoughts on how, or even why, Diesel no longer exists.
First off, I'm sadden to see this brand go from Home. It's a shame that such items like the Weird Wear tops that makes no fashion sense whatsoever to be survived by the minds with the lack of imagination that will quickly plunk down their money on these items than to give a simple Leather Jacket from a line that broke the mold for being the first name brand entity on Home.
I would hear how most of the Home consumers complained on the $1.99 price tag on the items back in 2008 when Diesel first debuted and instead would flock over to the cheaper items that aesthetically compromises quality for decent style, overall style. In the era where shirts, pants and average skirts were $0.49-$0.99, you had Diesel with their LAMAIN Leather Jacket and SERTU Shorts for $1.99 per-item. Heck, every item in the store were priced at $1.99. One could output a compelling argument on how the price points were a bit too steep for their wallets and some would argue that the items were fairly decent, but not enough to captivate the non-logical mindsets who's desire is to create an effective outfit.
Now I can respect the fact that many people have different tastes in clothes. in fact, this world would be pretty dull if there weren't such diversity for all to bask in. But i also believe in being open-minded.
In a virtual society where the many can live out whatever fantasy or create whatever their hearts desire, or express whatever they feel (within the ToS guidelines, of course), it's rather odd to see the many who would complain how there isn't enough diversity of pants, jackets, or skirts for women on Home.
And this is where, in my humble opinion, Diesel shined for me. The items were pretty accessible to create some topnotch designs and could easily be worn off-the-rack (provided if you even own any of the older items). Diesel's recent release were a huge step-up on the styles and presentation compared to their first release on Home. What's more is the price tags on the said recent items; they were affordable. Many wanted Diesel to return or to revamp their line, and this is exactly what happened, but only to be met with possible lacking sales or even interests.
Though we are graced with other apparel companies like Wrangler and Billabong, who knows what other brands we'll see on Home. For now I can honestly say at least if you have the items at least you can enjoy them at your leisure. Below are some source material and a video presentation of Diesel's recent release of their apparel. We will update our fashion catalog with all of the Diesel clothing that were released on Home in the coming months.
